Black Intellects

Most of you have probably heard but J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) has a new television series this fall called Undercovers.

I have mixed emotions about this. On one hand this is awesome. You've got an action-packed romantic comedy spy series (much in the spirit of say Hart to Hart, the Scarecrow & Mrs. King or Mr. & Mrs. Smith) that features two sexy, engaging and talented black leads. Note: two black leads in something other than a sitcom. Roles like this are usually reserved for white actors and the trailer looks promising imho. I personally plan on tuning in.

On the other hand, if the show fails, it won't be because the writing wasn't tight, or had a bad timeslot or the concept needed tweaking here and there or the networks didn't foster the series like they would if the series had an all-white cast.
The (fallacious) argument is going to be that black actors can't be leads and it's bad for business and therefore we won't see a show like this again.

So what say you Black Intellects? Can shows like this prosper, even in the age of Obama?

Aside from tuning in to support the series, what else can we do to make it clear that we more of our stories showcased and celebrated?

Shall we discuss?

I just really really want to watch this. I hope it succeeds.
